(By: Mahdi Shafiei) Youngsters are never listened to. Now they have the opportunity to. El Correo del Golfo introduced their newspaper to Canadian University of Dubai students and offered collaboration opportunities. Students can come up with a story and share their unique story within the UAE. They also encouraged students to become professional journalists and share their opinions.

El Correo del Golfo newspaper had a stand up presentation about their openings in Abu Dhabi and Dubai being the only Spanish newspaper in the Middle East. They asked the school of liberal arts students to share their ideas and help the newspaper come up with interactive articles regarding the United Arab Emirates. The students were very active and interested during the presentation and the ideas they came up with were very interesting as well.

There were many out of bound ideas but at the same time there were also positive views that some of the students had about United Arab Emirates. Most of the students have been in Dubai for many years and what they have noticed is unreliably true.

One of the students came up with the idea of, “Indian Laborers, the true builders of Dubai and their unfair lives”, he mentioned that they are promised a life when recruited but the life that they actually live when they come to Dubai is nothing close to what they were promised.

He also came up with the Idea of “UAE Locals being rich but not spoilt and different cities live different cultures”. Dubai is a very interesting and full of surprises, as the students came up on stage to share their ideas, one of them said: “Living in Dubai is like living in a bubble. You are very happy but it can burst at any moment and everything you had or will have is going to disappear”. Something very common to so many expats.

Another advertising student came up with the idea of Spain and Dubai having the young unemployment in common. After visiting Spain during the summer vacation he realized that there are lots of unemployed Spanish youngsters as it is in Dubai although there are lots of opportunities. He thought if he writes an article about it, it could be very interesting for people to read.

Although there were negative views of some of the students about Dubai, there was also a positive side. They mentioned Dubai’s police being very unique in front of the whole world. Having Ferrari’s, Bentleys and luxurious cars as the Police cars can be a very good article for a newspaper. Also the fact, that Dubai is one of the very few cities with multinational cultures and the way that people from different countries get along very well is an interesting topic itself.

Moreover, El Correo del Golfo offered a very unique opportunity for Canadian University of Dubai students to pursue their major into their future and that is not a thing you see every day. Usually it is the students going and lining up outside the newspapers office wanting to share their ideas with them. El Correo del Golfo was very well appreciated and the collaboration with Canadian University of Dubai is going to grow in size in the coming future.
